Sinusitis
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the lining of the sinuses that can cause nasal blockage, facial pressure, headache and difficulty breathing through the nose. It may be short-term or recurrent, and proper ENT evaluation helps identify the underlying cause and guide appropriate management.
Common Symptoms
Sinusitis can cause a combination of nasal and facial symptoms, which may vary depending on the severity and duration of the condition.
- Nasal blockage or difficulty breathing through the nose
- Facial pain, pressure or heaviness
- Nasal discharge or mucus dripping into the throat
- Headache and reduced sense of smell
Common Causes
Sinusitis may develop following infections or due to conditions that affect normal drainage and airflow through the sinuses.
- Viral or bacterial respiratory infections
- Nasal allergies and inflammation
- Nasal blockage or structural problems
- Recurrent or chronic sinus inflammation
Diagnosis & Management
A detailed ENT examination helps assess the nose and sinuses and determine the possible cause of symptoms. Treatment is based on the type and severity of sinusitis and may include medication, nasal care, allergy management or further evaluation when required.
