Tonsil and Adenoid Surgery

Tonsil and adenoid surgery may be considered for children or adults with recurrent throat infections, significantly enlarged tonsils or adenoids, persistent nasal blockage, snoring or sleep-related breathing problems. A detailed ENT evaluation helps determine whether surgery is appropriate based on the symptoms and their impact on health and daily life.

When Surgery May Be Considered

Surgical evaluation may be recommended when tonsil or adenoid enlargement or recurrent infections cause persistent symptoms or interfere with breathing, sleep, swallowing or overall comfort.

  • Recurrent or persistent tonsillitis and throat infections
  • Significantly enlarged tonsils or adenoids
  • Persistent snoring or sleep-related breathing difficulties
  • Nasal blockage, mouth breathing or difficulty swallowing
Evaluation & Surgical Planning

Before surgery, a detailed ENT examination is performed to assess the tonsils, adenoids and related symptoms. The patient's medical history, frequency of infections and sleep or breathing concerns are considered when planning treatment.

  • Detailed throat, tonsil and nasal examination
  • Assessment of recurrent infections and symptom history
  • Evaluation of snoring and sleep-related breathing symptoms
  • Discussion of the appropriate surgical approach when indicated
Procedure & Postoperative Care

Patients and parents are counselled about the planned procedure, expected recovery, potential benefits and possible risks before surgery. Appropriate postoperative care and follow-up help monitor recovery and ensure a smooth return to normal activities.
